Trauma can come from any experience that feels overwhelming, frightening, or deeply upsetting—especially when it leaves you feeling powerless, confused, or emotionally numb. These experiences can have lasting effects on how you think, feel, and relate to yourself and the world around you.
Trauma can result from things like abuse, assault, accidents, violence, war, or serious injuries. It can also come from natural disasters or other unexpected events that shake your sense of safety. After trauma, it is common to feel like the world is no longer safe, predictable, or fair.
Everyone experiences trauma differently. If you are struggling with the impact of something that happened to you—whether it was recently or long ago—you are not alone. Healing is possible, and support is available.
